Beach clubs and private beaches we recommend

By the Mademoiselle team 7 min read

Dining room of the Les Vagues restaurant in Le Grau d’Agde, laid tables behind large glass doors opening onto the beach and the sea

In the Languedoc, the beach is also a place for lunch: a sun lounger, a table a few steps from the waves, a day that stretches out until sunset. Each address has its own way of inhabiting the shore, from the calm of a dining room open to the sea to evenings under strings of lights.

On this coast, such a place is called a paillote: a seasonal beach restaurant and bar, laid out right on the sand, with loungers and parasols for the day. Here are the paillotes and private beaches we recommend to our guests, between Agde and Sérignan. Five of them appear in our magazine; four others complete the selection.

Most open in the warmer months, from spring to the end of summer.

Richelieu beach, in Cap d’Agde

Three addresses side by side on the eastern end of Richelieu beach, each with its own atmosphere. In August, when the beaches are crowded, we advise our guests to book their sun loungers here: the mood stays relaxed.

Manovi Plage

Avenue du Passeur-Challiès, Richelieu Est beach, Cap d’Agde · in our magazine

On the beachfront, Manovi blends seaside ease with understated refinement. Blond wood, soft light, plates to share, clinking glasses… and in the distance Fort Brescou, best watched at sunset. The menu is French and seasonal; on the beach, loungers shelter under sails to prolong the afternoon, a cocktail within reach. A salty, sunlit, elegant stop where time seems to stand still. The restaurant welcomes guests all year; the beach reopens in spring.

Le Millesim Plage

Avenue du Passeur-Challiès, Richelieu Est beach, Cap d’Agde · in our magazine

At the water’s edge, Millesim cultivates the art of entertaining with your feet in the water. The sunny, precise cooking is served throughout the day: linguine with clams, sea bream ceviche with citrus, orecchiette with lobster, and the strawberry tiramisu, the house speciality since 2011. Contemporary furniture, champagne by the glass, airy DJ sets in summer: a seaside elegance that glides gently from lunch to golden aperitif.

It is best to book for evenings. The house is open from April to September.

Jungle Beach

Richelieu Est beach, Cap d’Agde · in our magazine

Beneath exotic foliage and hanging lanterns, Jungle invites you on a festive escape by the water. The menu calls itself “from here and elsewhere” and combines finesse and generosity: tuna tartare, semi-cooked bluefin tuna in a burger, seared rib of beef, Iberian tapas, comforting burgers. The signature cocktails have a menu of their own.

As evening falls, the music rises, the lights dim and the beach becomes a dance floor: this is the address for evenings with friends. The season’s programme is published on its website.

La Roquille beach, in Cap d’Agde

Mango’s Beach Bar

La Roquille beach, Cap d’Agde

Right on the sand, Mango’s is one of the few paillotes on La Roquille, two minutes’ walk from the gate of Villa Roquille. The mood is Cuban: palm trees, exotic decor, mojitos and a cocktail of the day by the house mixologist. Loungers, with parasol and side table, can be reserved in the front row, almost in the water; at aperitif time, share a platter of tapas, fish, meat or vegetables. Pedalos and paddleboards can be hired for a trip out to sea. The house is open from April to September.

In Le Grau d’Agde

Les Vagues

124 chemin du Littoral prolongé, baie de l’Amitié, Le Grau d’Agde · in our magazine

Facing the sea, Les Vagues combines modernity and serenity in an open dining room bathed in light. The pared-back furniture gives way to the panorama. In the kitchen, a controlled elegance between the Mediterranean and Asia: dentex carpaccio, soft-boiled egg in breadcrumbs with foie gras, lobster ravioli. Precise plates, measured service, and the rare feeling of a suspended moment. Sun loungers wait on the sand to extend the day.

From Villa Camarines, you can walk there.

Sun 7 Beach Club

Boulevard du Front-de-Mer, Le Grau d’Agde

On the seafront of Le Grau d’Agde, Sun 7 brings together a private beach, a tapas restaurant and a cocktail bar. The season’s evenings, announced on its Instagram account, also make it an address for after dark. We recommend it to our guests staying in Le Grau d’Agde.

In Vias-Plage

Chiringuito Vias-Plage

Farinette beach, Vias-Plage · in our magazine

Set directly on the sand since 2015, the Chiringuito is a sunny, festive address, paced by sea air and sunsets. The decor recalls Bali: Balinese parasols, raw wood, banana trees, string lights. Tapas to share, fish grilled à la plancha, Camargue oysters and well-balanced cocktails are enjoyed in a relaxed musical atmosphere; three big evenings with DJ sets punctuate each season, from opening to closing.

In Sérignan and Valras

Further west, two last addresses extend the selection.

Latino Beach

La Maïre beach, départementale 37, Sérignan-Plage

In Sérignan-Plage, Latino Beach is a well-known paillote: a fitted-out beach with restaurant and bar, feet in the water. You sunbathe, have an aperitif, lunch facing the sea; in the evening, music and a festive mood take over.

La Cabane Bleue

14 avenue des Élysées, Valras-Plage

In Valras-Plage, La Cabane Bleue lays out a simpler beach: sun loungers and parasols, a bar, and on the shaded terrace gourmet salads, artisan savoury tarts, ice creams, full breakfasts. The mood is family-friendly, and access, shower and toilets are adapted for visitors with reduced mobility: an address for family days.

Choosing your address
